City panel orders downtown business to remove barriers

YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s design review committee gave Valley Food Systems 30 days to come up with an alternative to the concrete barriers that surround the perimeter of its parking lot. The committee voted Tuesday to deny a request from the company to keep the barriers in place and said Valley Food had 30 days to remove them. In light of Sunday’s damaging storms, Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham is reminding residents of the Destroyed or Damaged Real Property form (DTE 26), which is available on his office’s website. This form is for residents owning real property such as a home, garage or business. Anyone who has sustained structural damage may fill out an application. Youngstown saves $9K in interest on city hall annex loan

YOUNGSTOWN — The city saved $9,500 in interest on money it borrowed to pay loans for the city hall annex project through the use of a state treasurer’s program. The Ohio Market Access Program leverages the state’s money and high credit rating to improve market access to lower interest loans for local governments. Lordstown seeks voter support for income tax change

LORDSTOWN — In May 2023, Lordstown voters approved an additional 0.5% income tax to be used for the fire department, which was on top of an existing 1% income tax for the general fund. Village officials will ask voters in November to approve one change to the 0.5% income tax portion that is designated for the fire department so the funds also can be used to build a new fire station. The final clue in the hunt was given Tuesday to those searching for the treasure.
