Molina Healthcare donates $10,000 to fix YMHA playground

YOUNGSTOWN — Molina Healthcare of Ohio is donating $10,000 to the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority to rebuild the playground at Michael J. Kirwan Homes apartments.

After a fire destroyed the old playground, we made a commitment to rebuild, said Jason Whitehead, CEO and executive director of the YMHA.

âWe are coming together to restore a gathering place where children in our community can have fun and play. We appreciate Molina’s donation and support. Let this rebuilding serve a symbol of unity and resilience in uncertain times, he said.

The 146-resident community is located on Jackson Street in Campbell.

The YMHA’s housing portfolio is concentrated in Youngstown, but some units are scattered throughout Mahoning County. Residents benefit from support services that include self-sufficiency programs, housing counseling, youth after school programs, and Neighborhood Networks computer centers.

The agency is also in the process of concluding a comprehensive modernization of its entire portfolio of housing units.

Since 2005, Molina Healthcare of Ohio has been providing government-funded health care to low-income individuals. As of June 30, 2020, the company serves approximately 329,000 members through Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare-Medicaid (Duals) and Health Insurance Exchange programs across the state.

Earlier this week, the Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded YMHA $286,763 in federal CARES Act Funding as part of $14.3 million distributed to 73 housing agencies throughout the state,
