Struthers Fight Night 3 features 16-bout card

STRUTHERS – A 16-bout amateur fight card, presented by Paolone-n-Burnside Boxing is set for Saturday at St. Nick’s Great Hall, 764 Fifth Street in Struthers.

Titled “Struthers Fight Night 3,” the night will feature two fighters from host Keith Burnside’s Boxing Club, four from Youngstown’s Golden String Boxing Club and three from local trainer Jack Loew’s South Side Boxing Club with fighters from Cleveland, Lorain (two), Toledo (three) and Westlake (three) in Ohio, two from New Castle, Dubois, Erie (two) and Pittsburgh (two) in Pennsylvania, five hopefuls from Detroit and two international pugilists from across the pond that call England their home base.

“We have a night full of evenly matched fights with two international boxers from England set to make their area debuts,” Burnside said. “Several fighters will be making their overall debuts with each fighter eager to enter the ring and get their bouts underway.”

The 185-pound main event will pit Aiden St. Clair of Burnside Boxing against Marquan Calhoun of Cleveland, while the 156-pound co-main features England’s Charles Murray taking on Julio Azpurua of Golden String B.C.

Murray’s twin brother, Henry, has also made the trip from England and is set to meet Raashid Mujihad of Westlake’s Left to the Chin B.C.

“This is the first time that I can recall two international fighters, yet alone twin brothers, fighting on the same local card,” Burnside added. “Charles [Murray] is a veteran of 18 amateur fights while Henry also has 18 fights under his belt so we are excited to see how they will fare against their scheduled opponent.

“Aiden St. Clair has fought seven times, Marquan [Calhoun] is a veteran of 12 amateur scraps while Julio [Azpurua] will be making his 10th ring appearance.”

The other fighter from Burnside’s gym is Austin Gibson, who will go up against Noel Sanchez, Jr. in a 140-pound pairing.

Loew’s three fighters include 13-year-old Omar Gardner, who will meet 14-year-old Essa Almanveri of Detroit in a 95-pound pairing, Dontrail Burkes, an 11 year old taking on 13-year-old Maximus Lopez of Toledo, both of whom will be making their amateur debuts at 101 pounds and Isaac Christian, who is also making his debut when he goes up against Bryan Miller of Pittsburgh at 135 pounds.

Miller has just one fight under his belt.

In addition to Azpurua, the other three fighters representing Tom Cordell’s Golden String Boxing Club include Kavon Cotton, who will meet New Castle’s Alan Williams, also at 135 pounds, Kevin Burns, who will be making his eighth appearance in the ring when he goes up against Laveer Pruit of Detroit in a 145-pound scrap and Muhammed Hussein, who will take on Toledo’s Noel Green at 165 pounds.

In a 190-pound matchup, New Castle’s Jordan Carr is set to meet Dylan Prpic of Westlake with the former a veteran of 12 fights and the latter looking to improve his 13-fight record.

General Admission is $20 with tables of eight $300.
