Prep Roundup: Canfield wins district title; Howland and West Branch fall

Canfield 64, Cleveland Glenville 51
After falling behind after the first quarter, Canfield locked in to defeat Cleveland Glenville 64-51 for a district title. The Cardinals trailed 17-13 after the opening period before surging to a 27-24 halftime advantage.
The Cardinals were paced by Drew Shapiro’s 13 points and Landon Shina’s 11 points. Ben Weaver, Jake Delisio and Tony Russo each netted nine, while Sam Castronova added seven and Dom Cruz had six.
The Cardinals especially made their mark at the charity stripe, where they shot 18-for-26 compared to Glenville’s paltry 8-for-22 night.

Warrensville Heights 51, West Branch 49
West Branch fell to Warrensville Heights 51-49 on Saturday in the Division II, Northeast 2 district final. It was just the fifth time that the Warriors have reached the district championship in school history.
West Branch trailed by two at halftime, before rallying to take a six-point lead by the end of the third. However, the Tigers returned the favor in the final quarter, coming back to secure the victory. Jaxon Robb led the Warriors with 15 points, while Gavin Gregory had 13 and Cooper Anderson had 12.
The Warriors end their season as Eastern Buckeye Conference champions and a record of 21-5.

Lutheran West 74, Howland 37
A poor first quarter doomed Howland on Saturday in the Division II, Northeast 4 district final at North Ridgeville. The Tigers ended their season with a 74-37 defeat to Lutheran West.
By the end of the first quarter, Howland trailed by 20 points (27-7). But from there, the Tigers were able to steady the ship and keep pace with the Longhorns. Yet, that early deficit was too much to make up. Anthony Chieffo and Steven Bubon led the Tigers with eight points apiece. Chris Fenton had seven, while John Perry chipped in six for Howland.
