Fitch boys finish 2nd in D1 meet

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Fitch boys track and field team placed second as a team at Friday’s Division I Austintown Regional meet and is sending three competitors and a relay team to next week’s state meet.

The Falcons’ 4×100-meter relay team of Dan Evans, Donnie Ellis, Brody Herman and Jayden Eley won the event in a time of 43.18 seconds.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to next weekend’s Division I state meet at Hilliard Darby High School. The fifth- and sixth-place finishers also have a chance to qualify for state if their times are among the two best compared to the fifth- and sixth-place finishers at the other regionals around the state.

Fitch’s Nate Leskovac placed second in the high jump with a leap of 6-foot-4. The Falcons’ JaMeire Robinson finished third in shot put with a throw of 52-8.75. Fitch’s 4×100 relay team of Kenzie Chine, Savannah Jones, Jenna Rodgers and Madison Bucko advanced by placing second at 50.33. The Falcons’ Kristin Yeager was fifth in the 1600 at 5:09.14, so she too has a chance to qualify.
