Wednesday highlights
BASEBALL
South Range’s Trey Pancake homered as one of his four hits, and the Raiders pounded Lakeview, 14-2. Pancake, who also doubled, drove in five runs. Aiden English picked up the win, and he also doubled twice and had two RBIs.
Austintown Fitch’s Joe Roth had three hits and four RBIs to fuel the Falcons in a 10-5 victory over Ursuline.
SOFTBALL
McDonald’s Bri Callow outdueld Grace Schultz of Brookfield in a 2-1 win for the Blue Devils. Callow struck out 12 and didn’t walk a batter in the victory. Schultz struck out six.
Crestview’s Kaedyn Sutton fired a two-hit shutout to propel the Rebels past Beaver Local, 6-0.
Mathews’ Ashley Deans hit two home runs and two triples, and Becca Landis tossed a one-hit shutout to power the Mustangs to a 12-0 victory over Lordstown.
Wednesday highlights
BASEBALL
Mathews’ Alex Nicholson tossed a one-hitter, striking out eight in the Mustangs’ 8-1 victory over Badger. Christian Mudrey added two doubles for Mathews (6-2).
Liberty’s Trevor Strohmeyer struck out 13, and Liberty scored eight runs in the seventh inning to break open a tie game and win 10-2 over Campbell. Evan Ward had three hits for the Leopards (4-4, 2-2).
SOFTBALL
Tori Long of Columbiana clubbed three doubles as part of a 4-for-4 performance in the Clippers’ 18-1 rout of Southern in five innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Mackenzi Gamble allowed two hits and struck out seven to earn the win, and Julia Rapp hit a home run drove in four. Long was 3-for-3 with two doubles in the Game 2, another 18-1 victory.
West Branch’s Sam Morris tossed a four-hit shutout in the Warriors’ 11-0 victory over Carrollton. Sydney Mercer led the offense by going 4-for-4.
Cardinal Mooney’s Alaina Francis singled in Gia Diorio in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Cardinals over Mineral Ridge, 3-2. Alaina Scavina struck out 11 and walked one in a complete game. She also homered.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the seventh inning, Jackson-Milton rallied for a 3-2 win over Lowellville. Riley Headley walked and was replaced by pinch-runner Megan Finnie. Jenna Jones singled with Finnie moving to third. She scored on a passed ball, then Jones scored the go-ahead run on a bunt by Kaitlynn Bierdeman. Headley stopped the Rockets in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the victory.
