Spring postseason gets started soon

The high school spring sports postseason is just around the corner as April ends, with seed / drawing meetings scheduled on Sunday for softball and boys tennis. Those sports will begin competition during the week of May 10-15.

Seed / drawing meetings for baseball and boys and girls lacrosse are scheduled May 9. Baseball will begin its postseason the week of May 17-22. Both boys and girls lacrosse start their postseason May 15-20.

Track and field already has schools / teams assigned to district locations so a seed / drawing meeting is not necessary. Competition gets started in track May 17-22.

In softball and baseball, tournaments in the Northeast District will be conducted as they were in basketball, soccer and volleyball. The teams in the district are divided into an East and West alignment and teams can chose which of two (three in Division I) district tournaments they want to enter. The district tournaments no longer are aligned by geography, however district title game sites have been predetermined. All games before that are played at the site of the better-seeded team.

The tennis postseason is much like it has been with area Division I teams playing their sectional tournaments at Jackson Park in Canton (Fitch, Boardman, Canfield) and at Solon Community Park (Harding, Howland).

In Division II, all area teams (Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline, Poland, Struthers, Kennedy, Lakeview, West Branch, Salem, Lordstown, East Palestine) will compete at Boardman and Struthers.

In both boys and girls lacrosse, area teams include Boardman in Division I and Canfield, Poland and Cardinal Mooney in Division II. Regional qualifying takes place May 15-20, with the regional quarterfinals set May 19-22. The regional semifinals and final will be held May 24-28 and the state final four will be played June 1-5.
