Locals star in girls wrestling

Three area wrestlers placed at the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association’s Girls State Tournament last weekend.

Hubbard wrestler Kylie Bentley continued a record-setting career for the Eagles. The senior placed fourth for the second straight year at the state tournament.

Bentley, a district champion, won her first two matches at 106 pounds, one by pin and the other by points. She was defeated in the semifinals and suffered an injury in her last match to finish fourth. She became the first two-time state placer in Hubbard history.

Boardman’s Lexi Beadle, a district champion at 116 pounds, also placed fourth as the state tournament. She became the first Spartan to place at state. Brookfield’s Bailey Hackett, a junior who was a 170-pound district champ, went on to place fourth at state.

They were three of five area female wrestlers to advance to the state tournament.

Hubbard’s Amber Flynn placed fourth at the district tournament at 137 pounds, and the Spartans’ Sloan McNally took third at 121 pounds at the district.
