Campbell upsets NF; Poland wins in OT; Irish roll

¯ CAMPBELL 49, NEWTON FALLS 33: CAMPBELL — The Red Devils stunned the short-handed Tigers, winning their first game of the season in 16 starts, as they used a late 7-0 scoring push at the end of the third quarter to break a 28-all tie and then carried the momentum into the final quarter when they outscored their guests 14-5.

The league-leading Tigers, playing without starters Josh Honeycutt and Cole Marquette, fell to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the MVAC-Gray Tier.

Campbell (1-15, 1-7 MVAC-Gray) scored twice off consecutive turnovers and then Skevos Kouros made buzzer-beating 3-pointer from halfcourt to end the third period. Kouros scored a game-high 20 points and Collin Michaels added nine.

Jordan Dowling led the Tigers with 15 points.

¯ POLAND 54, JEFFERSON 44 (ot): JEFFERSON — The Bulldogs held Jefferson scoreless in overtime to take down the Falcons.

Michael Gordon forced the overtime period by hitting a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 44. Gordon finished the game with seven points.

Brody Todd led the Bulldogs (12-3, 7-1) with 19 points. Christian Colosimo added 12.

¯ URSULINE 88, BADGER 31: YOUNGSTOWN — Tyler Beck netted 17 points on the strength of five 3-pointers, Terrence Pankey scored 14 and Brady Shannon added 11 points as the host Irish built a 49-16 halftime lead and breezed to the non-league win.

Ursuline (11-5) led 28-10 after the first period.

Carter Burnett scored eight points for the Braves (3-8).

¯ MINERAL RIDGE 55, WESTERN RESERVE 43: BERLIN CENTER — The Rams outscored the hosts by eight points in the third period and again in the fourth as they overcame a 24-20 halftime deficit to pull away, mostly via free throws.

Mineral Ridge was 13-for-17 from the charity stripe in the final quarter and finished 17-for-21. The Blue Devils were 5-for-9 at the line for the game. Triston Weiss scored 15 points and Jalen Royal-Eiland added 14 to lead the Rams.

Noah Klasic netted a game-high 18 for Western Reserve and Ryan Gordon added 17 points.

¯ SEBRING 49, EAST CANTON 46: CANTON — The Trojans outscored the hosts 20-11 in the final quarter to pick up a non-league road win.

Dyland Johnson scored 18 points – all via 3-pointers – to lead Sebring, which had a 33-15 scoring cushion beyond the 3-point arc. Matt Byrd added nine points for the Trojans (5-13).

¯ SALEM 69, MARLINGTON 66: SALEM — Brock Young scored 17 points for the Quakers in a close win over Marlington to move to 9-4 on the season and 6-1 in the Eastern Buckeye conference.

Young’s 17 points was a team-high and he was followed up by Hunter Griffith who scored 14, Jon Null who scored 13 and Drew Weir who added 11.

Casey Miller scored a game-high 23 points for the Dukes.

¯ LaBRAE 51, CRESTVIEW 49: COLUMBIANA — The Vikings fought off a fourth quarter rush by Crestview to pull out a league win.

LaBrae built up a 14-point lead at the half to cushion the Rebels outscoring them by eight in the second half.

Leading for the Vikings were Landen Kiser and Devin Carter, who each scored 13. Aidan Stephens added 11.

The Rebels were led by Kirkland Miller and Drake Golden who both had a game-high 19 points.
