McDonald’s Rupe wins Division III Spartan title

BOARDMAN — McDonald’s Brody Rupe and Maplewood’s Caleigh Richards have been dominating the area cross country scene early this season.

Not much changed Thursday during the Division III portion of the Spartan Invitational at Boardman High School.

Rupe won in a time of 16:29.9, while Richards took first in 19:12.0.

Rupe led the Blue Devils to a third-place finish in the boys team standings with 113 points, behind first-place Canton Central Catholic (50) and East Canton (77). Maplewood’s boys were fourth (135), while South Range took fifth (161).

Maplewood’s girls took another first-place finishing this season by edging out Gilmour Academy, 40 to 49. Mineral Ridge was third (97), while McDonald was fifth (171).

Mineral Ridge’s Sylvia Traw and Maplewood’s Haley Agardi placed in the top five during the girls’ race, while South Range’s Michael Hvizdos paced the Raiders with a fourth-place finish on the boys’ side.

Division I racing begins Saturday morning, while the Division II runners go in the afternoon back at Boardman High School.
