Quartet of area teams are 1 seeds

The voting is in and an area boys basketball team was named the top seed in four separate sectional/district tournaments.

The four No. 1s are Chaney in the Division II tournament at Boardman, Garrettsville Garfield in the Division III tournament at Warren G. Harding, and, in Division IV, McDonald in the Struthers tournament and Bristol in the district at Grand Valley.

Boys tournament play gets started the last week in February.

Chaney and Garfield both were followed by three other area teams to fill out the top four seeds. Struthers was second in Division II with West Branch third and Canfield fourth.

Garfield was followed by LaBrae, Newton Falls and Pymatuning Valley in the Warren Harding district.

Springfield nabbed the No. 2 seed in the Division III Salem District, trailing only Waterloo. Columbiana and South Range are third and fourth, respectively, in that district.

In Division I, Boardman grabbed the No. 3 seed at the Canton District behind Green and Canton McKinley. Warren G. Harding is seeded fourth at Twinsburg behind Shaker Heights, Garfield Heights and Solon.

In Division IV, John F. Kennedy is seeded third and Windham fourth at Grand Valley, while at Struthers, Sebring is third and Mathews is No. 4.

Sectional games will be played at the home site of the better-seeded teams. First-round games in the sectional are scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Divisions II-IV and on Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Division I.

The sectional bracket finals are Friday night in II-IV and Saturday evening in Division I.

Those winners advance to the district tournaments the first week of March when games will be played at the neutral host sites.

Divisions III and IV play district semifinals on Monday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 3, with the finals set on Friday, March 6. Divisions I and II play their district semifinals on Wednesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 5, with the finals on Saturday, March 7. The D-II title games will be at 4 p.m., Division I at 7 p.m.

Girls tournaments get started on Saturday when the Division I and II teams play their sectional first-round games. Divisions III and IV start on Feb. 19 for the girls.
