Spartans take titles

WARREN — The Boardman High School boys and girls bowling teams won All-American Conference Red Tier titles on Sunday at Freeway Lanes in Warren.

The Spartans’ seven-man boys team recorded 2,863 points to beat second-place Warren G. Harding (2,697). Jacob Burkey was named the Red Tier tournament MVP as he rolled a high series of 427, with games of 169 and 259. Following Burkey were Cnaiel Enright (389), Joe Taraszewski (389), Rees Beckman (343) and Chase Caroline (182).

Howland was third (2,569), Austintown Fitch took fourth (2,560) and Canfield was fifth (2,523).

The Boardman girls won in even more convincing fashion, registering 2,582 points to cruise past second-place Howland (2,175).

Alayna Turillo led the Spartans, earning Red Tier MVP honors with a high series of 389, scoring games of 190 and 199. Every Boardman bowler scored at least a 300 series, with Lexus Petrich (356), Josalyn Hibbard (339), Sam Hoffman (314) and Fatima Rehman (307) following Turillo.

Fitch was third at 2,001, Harding took fourth (1,979) and Canfield placed fifth (1,484).

LaBrae won the Blue Tier boys event, and Champion took the championship in the Blue Tier girls.
