Lowellville upsets Sebring; Mooney, Fitch win

¯ LOWELLVILLE 75, SEBRING 69, overtime: SEBRING — The Rockets pick up their first league win of the season in an overtime victory over a no longer undefeated Sebring team.

The Trojans, ranked No. 2 in the latest Division IV state poll, stormed back in the fourth quarter to force the overtime period where Lowellville outscored Sebring 15-9 to pick up the win.

Anthony Lucente and Cole Bunofsky each scored 21 points, leading the team.

Gabe Lanzer had a game-high 34 points for the Trojans.

¯ CARDINAL MOONEY 66, JFK 47: WARREN — The Cardinals pulled away from John F. Kennedy with a big second half.

Mooney (4-5) led by five at halftime, but it outscored the Eagles, 36-22, in the second half. The Cardinals’ Mike Pelini led all scorers with 24 points. Tommy Fire added 13, and Mick Hergenrother put in 12 points.

Hayden Wait paced the Eagles with 11 points. Kennedy made nine 3-pointers, but they were just 5 of 15 from the line.

¯ FITCH 53, HOWLAND 49: AUSTINTOWN — Fitch held off a huge fourth quarter from the Tigers for an All-American Conference Red Tier victory.

The Falcons (5-4) held a 33-24 lead entering the fourth quarter, but Howland (3-7) scored more points in the fourth quarter (25) than it did the first three frames (24). The Tigers made four 3-pointers in the fourth as well.

Fitch kept the door open by making 8 of 17 free throws in the fourth and 11 of 23 for the game. Still, they held on thanks to a big night from Todd Simons, who scored a game-high 24 points. Kris Brown added 14 for the Falcons, who led 22-13 at halftime.

Cameron Durig paced Howland with 16 points. He made two of his four 3-pointers in the final 8 minutes. Anthony Massucci added 11 points.

¯ POLAND 49, LAKEVIEW 41: POLAND — Andrew Centofanti had a team-high 12 points to lead three double-figure scorers as Poland defeated Lakeview in a Northeast-8 battle.

Zach Kassem had 11 points, while Michael Cougras added 10 for Poland (5-2, 4-0 NE-8).

Jake Wilms put in 14 to pace Lakeview (5-7, 2-2).

¯ GIRARD 43, NILES 37: GIRARD — Christian Graziano had 13 of his game-high 18 points in the first half as the Indians beat the Red Dragons in NE-8 play.

Girard improved to 3-6, 2-2.

Joe Wolfe led Niles (2-7, 1-3) with 14 points, while Doug Foster added 11

¯ SPRINGFIELD 69, WESTERN RESERVE 32: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield sank 12 3-pointers and blasted past the Blue Devils in a MVAC matchup.

All five of Beau Brungard’s field goals were 3-pointers as he finished with 15 points. Evan Ohlin added three 3-pointers and also notched 15 points. Brungard scored all of his points in the first half, when the Tigers took a 41-14 lead. Drew Clark added 11 for Springfield (5-4).

Ryan Gordon of Western Reserve (6-6) was the only Blue Devil to reach double figures with 13.

¯ COLUMBIANA 85, EAST PALESTINE 45: EAST PALESTINE — Dalton Whitehair drained seven 3-pointers in a big win over East Palestine.

Whitehair led the Clippers with 22 points. Ryan Fahs scored 17 and Matt Mazei added 10.

Johnathan Bertovich tied the game-high with 22 points. Brandon Turcola scored 14 points for the Bulldogs.

¯ WEST BRANCH 57, CANTON SOUTH 47, double overtime: CANTON — One overtime wasn’t enough to decide a winner, but a 10-0 run in the second overtime gave the Warriors the win.

The teams were tied at 44 going into overtime and scored three each in the first overtime period. Once the second overtime began it was all West Branch.

Reese Leone scored a game-high 18 points for the Warriors and Jason Hendershott followed close behind with 16. Nick Everett added 10.

¯ WATERLOO 78, JACKSON-MILTON 55: NORTH JACKSON — A slow third quarter doomed the Blue Jays in a league loss.

Jackson-Milton went into halftime trailing by seven points, but the Vikings outscored them by 12 in the third quarter to pull away.

Cole Grope led the Blue Jays with 11 points. Frankie Prozy scored 10 and Mason Robison, Gabin Sahli and Nick McGinnis each added eight.

¯ SOUTHERN 68, LEETONIA 37: LEETONIA — Southern ties a school record for its longest win streak after a big win over Leetonia.

The Indians got out to a 26-10 lead after the first quarter and kept it going, holding the Bears to 27 points for the remainder of the game.

Cam Grodhaus led the Indians with 25 points and Tanner Patterson added 10.

Ian Davis led Leetonia with 11 and Timmy Finch scored 10.

¯ MASSILLON 53, CHANEY 50: MASSILLON — Jaden Stock hit a late 3-pointer to push the Tigers past Chaney in a non-conference thriller.

It was 48-all when Stock hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1 minute remaining in the fourth quarter for Massillon (7-1). Chaney then scored to cut it 51-50, and Stock hit a 2-pointer to make it a three-point advantage. Chaney’s final shot hit the front of the rim at the buzzer.

Cameron Lawrence paced Chaney (7-3), scoring eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Sherrod Taylor added 11 points.

Stock scored 13 of his team-best 16 points in the second half.

¯ MENTOR LAKE CATHOLIC 76, URSULINE 54: MENTOR — Luke Frazier and Luke Eller combined to score 45 points, with 27 coming in the first half, as the Cougars cruised past Ursuline.

Eller scored 14 of his 22 in the first half, and Frazier poured in 13 of his 21 as Lake Catholic (5-4) took a 43-23 lead at the break.

Ursuline’s Daysean Harris recorded a team-best 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
