Fitch edges Boardman; West Branch, East win

¯ FITCH 60, BOARDMAN 56: AUSTINTOWN — Emma Bartlett scored 24 points on the strength of six 3-pointers and Ashley Mickey made a pair of key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the host Falcons rallied to top the Spartans in a battle of teams seeking their first league victories.

The game was nip-and-tuck throughout, as Boardman led 14-11 after one period, Fitch led 29-28 at halftime and the Spartans took a 41-40 lead into the final session.

Daria Williams added 14 points for Fitch, which upped its record to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the All-American Conference, Red Tier.

Boardman got 21 points from Raegan Burkey, 12 from Maria Torres and 10 from Katie Stamp. The Spartans’ ledger dipped to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the loop.

¯ WEST BRANCH 73, URSULINE 23: YOUNGSTOWN — The visiting Warriors surrendered just two points in the first quarter and three in the final quarter in roughing up the Irish.

Hannah Ridgeway scored 18 points, Jillian Pidgeon supplied 14 points and Peyton Alazaus added nine points for West Branch, which improved to 11-2 overall and outrebounded Ursuline 37-20 as Jessica Bock pulled down nine boards.

Ursuline trailed 19-2 after the first period, 36-13 at halftime and 56-20 entering the final canto. Anisah Moorman scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Irish, who fell to 5-10.

¯ EAST 41, BROOKFIELD 34: YOUNGSTOWN — The host Golden Bears built a nine-point halftime cushion, 20-11, and basically held that margin the rest of the way to win a non-league contest.

Brianna Thompson scored 12 points and Delena Brown supplied 10 to fuel East, whch improved to 9-5 overall.

Sophia Hook tallied a game-high 19 points and Audrey Reardon added seven points for the Warriors, who dipped to 4-8 overall.

¯ LAUREL 69, CANFIELD 37: SHAKER HEIGHTS — An ugly third quarter doomed the Cardinals in a non-conference clash with Laurel Academy.

The Cardinals (10-4) trailed by five at halftime, but Laurel went on a 24-2 run in the third to put the game away. The Gators (12-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Mari Bickley’s 17.

Grace Mangapora paced the Cardinals with 13. Canfield trailed 29-24 at the half, but it was outscored, 40-13, in the final two quarters.

¯ NEWTON FALLS 71, CAMPBELL 31: NEWTON FALLS — The host Tigers only allowed two points in each of the first two periods en route to the blowout victory in All-American Conference, Blue Tier action.

Eleven Tigers reached the scoring column, led by Madison Haidet, who had 14 points. Bree Hutson added nine points, as the Tigers led 21-2 after one period and 32-4 at halftime. Newton Falls improved to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

Maddy Shugar scored 11 points to pace the Red Devils, who fell to 3-10 overall and 0-6 league play.
