Canfield, Fitch, Chaney all notch victories

¯ CANFIELD 74, HOWLAND 48: CANFIELD — The Cardinals got their first league victory of the season after a big win over Howland.

Joe Bruno had a game-high 26 points for Canfield and was followed up by Brayden Beck (16 points) and Trey Dye (11 points).

Leading Howland was Anthony Massucci with 12 points and Cam Durig with 11.

The Cardinals are now 8-6 and 1-3 in the All-American Conference’s Red Tier, while the Tigers are 3-10 and are still looking for their first league win.

¯ FITCH 39, CARROLLTON 31: AUSTINTOWN — In an old-style, non-league affair, the host Falcons bested Carrollton to move above .500 at 7-6.

The Falcons led 16-13 at halftime of a contest where neither team made a 3-point field goal. Todd Simons scored 14 points and Kris Brown added 11 for Fitch.

¯ CHANEY 67, COPLEY 50: COPLEY — Chaney pulled away in the second and third quarters of a non-conference matchup with the Indians.

The game was tied at 18 after one quarter, but the Cowboys (12-3) outscored Copley, 34-14, over the next 16 minutes. Five players scored in double figures for Chaney. Cameron Lawrence led the way with 14, and William Brown (12), Sherrod Taylor (11), Travis Easterly (10) and Quincy Jones (10) also made key contributions offensively.

Joseph Norman and Cole Beck each scored 12 for the Indians.

¯ URSULINE 93, GIRARD 47: YOUNGSTOWN — The host Irish rolled to a non-league victory as six players reached double-digit scoring in a balanced attack, led by freshman Will Burney’s 14 points.

Dean Boyd scored 13, Terrence Pankey scored 12 and Brady Shannon added 11. Vince Armeni and Tyler Beck added 10 points apiece for Ursuline, which also had a 43-24 rebounding advantage.

Christian Graziano scored a game-high 19 for the Indians, who dropped to 5-8. Thomas Cardiero added eight points.

¯ CARDINAL MOONEY 69, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 32: YOUNGSTOWN — Cardinal Mooney clobbered the Eagles in a crosstown, non-league clash.

Devon Jenkins and Mike Pelini powered the Cardinals (7-6). Jenkins tallied a game-high 23, while Pelini scored 15. They helped Mooney get out to a 41-16 halftime lead.

Mark Revere led Valley Christian (2-9) with 17 points.

¯ SOUTHERN 92, EAST PALESTINE 57: SALINEVILLE — Southern exploded for 30 points in the opening period and routed the visiting Bulldogs.

The hosts led by 14 points after the first period and 51-25 by halftime, as they improved 7-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference to remain tied with Columbiana for first place. Cam Grodhaus scored 25 points to lead three Indians in double-digit scoring. In all, 12 Indian players scored.

Johnathan Bertovitch poured in 39 points to spark the Bulldogs, who fell to 3-9 overall and 3-4 in the EOAC. Brandon Turcola added 10.

¯ CRESTWOOD 71, HUBBARD 59: HUBBARD — The host Eagles fell to 3-8 overall with a home non-league loss to the Red Devils.

Crestwood had four players score in double digits and the Eagles couldn’t put out the blaze, as the Red Devils’ Blaze Angle poured in 29 points.

Cam Resatar’s 19 points paced the Eagles, who dropped to 3-8 overall with the non-league setback. Chanze Kelley scored 16 and Jayden Record added eight.

¯ WATERLOO 54, SOUTH RANGE 51: BEAVER TOWNSHIP — Caleb Francis, Vaughn Dorsey and Kyle Shockley combined for 45 points as the host Raiders were unable to contain the trio in a non-league battle.

Francis scored 16, Dorsey had 15 and Shockley added 14 as the Vikings inched away a bit at a time, leading 18-16, 28-25 and 42-33 at the quarter stoppages.

Chris Brooks had 17 points to lead South Range, which fell to 8-5 overall. Nate Brown and Dante Digaetano followed with seven points apiece.

¯ SEBRING 94, LEETONIA 42: SEBRING — Gabe Lanzer was one of three players with double-doubles as the Trojans hammered the Bears.

Lanzer had 33 points and 10 rebounds Sebring (10-4), while Jake Hunter had 20 points and 10 assists and Connor Shepherd added 12 points and 10 assists.

Marco Ferry paced Leetonia (2-11) with 13 points.

¯ LIBERTY 63, CRESTVIEW 59: LIBERTY — James Davis hit a go-ahead field goal with less than 2 minutes remaining and held on to edge Crestview in an All-American Conference, Blue Tier matchup.

The Rebels (4-10) rallied from a 51-38 fourth-quarter deficit and tied the game at 59 on two free throws by Kirkland Miller. Davis, who scored a game-high 24, then gave the Leopards (6-8) the lead with a shot moments later. Jameer Weaver, who scored 19 points, added a field goal to give Liberty the cushion it needed to preserve the victory.

O’Marion Dawson registered a double-double for the Leopards with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Drake Golden led Crestview with 22 points (nine in the fourth quarter), and Miller added 13 (eight in the fourth).

¯ LISBON 51, WESTERN RESERVE 45: BERLIN CENTER — Free throws played a big role in Lisbon holding off Western Reserve in a non-conference tilt.

Lisbon made 19-of-25 free throws, while Western Reserve sank just 2-of-5. Lisbon (6-8) had three players score in double figures, led by Blayne Brownfield’s 17. Ryan McCullough added 15, and Michael Davis scored 12.

Todd Henning scored a team-best 17 for Western Reserve (5-10).

¯ BROOKFIELD 71, CAMPBELL 48: BROOKFIELD — A second-quarter outburst helped Brookfield roll past the Red Devils in an AAC, Blue Tier contest.

The Warriors (9-7) led by six after on quarter and then outscored Campbell, 25-10, in the second frame to take a commanding, 39-18, halftime lead. Conner Stevens paced Brookfield with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Haden Gibson added 13 points, and Isaiah Jones secured a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors.

Collin Michaels scored a team-high 14 for Campbell (3-11), and Zach Luciano put in 11 points.
