Boardman rolls; Poland, Struthers, SR win in NE-8

¯ BOARDMAN 70, HOWLAND 38: HOWLAND — The Spartans remain undefeated with a big win over Howland.

After holding a six-point lead after the first quarter, Boardman’s offense exploded to pull away from the Tigers.

Leading on the scoreboard for the Spartans was Ethan Anderson who had 20 points. Derrick Anderson scored 15 points, Tommy Fryda had 14 and Charlie Davis added 10.

Howland was led by Anthony Massucci who scored 11.

¯ POLAND 58, JEFFERSON 41: POLAND — Zach Kassem scored 15 points and Michael Cougras added 14 points to lead 10 Bulldogs who reached the scoring column in a Northeast-8 win over the visiting Falcons.

The Bulldogs used a 24-12 scoring advantage in the second quarter to build a 47-21 lead and cruised to remain unbeaten at 5-0 in the league. Adam Kassen added seven points and five rebounds, Andrew Centofanti had five assists and Stephen Carney added six steals for Poland, which moved to 6-2 overall.

Koby Cunningham had 19 points to lead Jefferson, which fell to 2-3 in league play.

¯ STRUTHERS 66, GIRARD 37: GIRARD — The Wildcats outscored the Indians 50-16 in the second half to dominate this Northeast-8 Conference game.

Trey Metzka led five double-figure scorers for Struthers (8-1, 4-1 NE-8) with 13 points. Carson Ryan had 12, while Aidan Slocum put in 11. Brandon Washington and Jared Laczko each had 10 points.

Christian Graziano led Girard (3-7, 2-3) with 14 points, while Thomas Cardiero added 13.

¯ SOUTH RANGE 46, NILES 38: NILES — The South Range defense was outstanding, especially in the second quarter, in the Raiders’ Northeast-8 Conference road win.

Ahead 11-9 after one quarter, the Raiders (6-3, 2-3 NE-8) put the clamps on the Red Dragons (2-8, 1-4) over the next eight minutes and led 24-11 at halftime.

Chris Brooks led the South Range offense with 27 points. Doug Foster led Niles with 14 points.

¯ LAKEVIEW 74, HUBBARD 59: CORTLAND — Brendon Kilpatrick and Ryan Carnahan combined for 56 points to lead the Bulldogs past the Eagles in this Northeast-8 Conference battle.

Kilpatrick had a game-high 31 points for Lakeview (6-7, 3-2), while Carnahan added 25.

Chanze Kelley led Hubbard (3-5, 1-4) with 28 points.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 49, LOWELLVILLE 43: LOWELLVILLE — Mason Robison had six 3-pointers and a game-high 29 points to lead the Blue Jays to their first Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference win.

Jackson-Milton improves to 3-9, 1-6 MVAC.

Vinny Ballone paced Lowellville (6-5, 1-5) with 12 points, while Cole Bunofsky added 11 and Anthony Lucente put in 10.

¯ SPRINGFIELD 53, MINERAL RIDGE 51: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Drew Clark had 11 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter as the Tigers outscored the Rams 22-14 in the first 8-minute stanza.

Evan Ohlin added 12 for Springfield (6-4, 4-2 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference).

Miles Culp paced Mineral Ridge (4-5, 3-4) with 13 points as the Rams rallied by outscoring the Tigers 27-20.

Maurice Clark had all of 11 of his points in the second half, while Austin Governer added 11 for Mineral Ridge.

¯ WATERLOO 58, WESTERN RESERVE 39: BERLIN CENTER — The Blue Devils fell behind early and couldn’t dig themsevles out of the hole in a league loss to Waterloo.

Western Reserve trailed by 10 after the first quarter and closed the gap slightly going into the break.

Waterloo then outscored the Blue Devils 37-23 in the second half to pull away and get the win.

Leading for Western Reserve was Ryan Gordon who scored 15 points.

Vaughn Dorsey scored a game-high 20 points for the Vikings.

¯ CARROLLTON 41, WEST BRANCH 35: BELOIT — West Branch suffered its first league loss of the year in a defensive battle against Carrollton.

West Branch went into halftime with a 25-13 lead, but Carrollton was able to take the lead in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Warriors 16-9.

Nick Everett and Reese Leone led West Branch scoring 11 points each.

¯ LaBRAE 67, LIBERTY 51: LEAVITTSBURG — Connor Meyer and Justin Rutherford combined for 12 points in the first quarter as the Vikings pulled away early from the Leopards with a 19-8 advantage.

Meyer had 16 points, while Rutherford added 13 for LaBrae (7-3, 3-1 All-American Conference, Blue Tier). Devin Carter added 15 points for the Vikings.

LaBrae outscored Liberty (3-7, 1-3) 20-8 in the third quarter to put this game away.

Jameer Weaver, who had four 3-pointers, paced the Leopards with 18 points.

¯ COLUMBIANA 62, SOUTHERN 51: COLUMBIANA — The Clippers put up a dominant third quarter to push themselves past Southern to give the Indians their first loss of the season.

After going into halftime with a 36-33 lead, Columbiana fired off a 23-point third quarter to pull away.

Sean Whitehead led the Clippers with 22 points and Carter Pasco added 14.

Cam Grodhaus had 22 points for the Indians.

¯ LISBON 67, EAST PALESTINE 42: LISBON — Blayne Brownfield and Ryan McCullough combined for 40 points to lead the Blue Devils past the Bulldogs in this Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference battle.

Brownfield had a game-high 25 points for Lisbon (4-1 EOAC), while McCullough added 15.

Johnathan Bertovitch paced East Palestine (4-6, 2-3) with 22 points.
