Fitch wrestlers capture Hoppel Invitational

LISBON — Austintown Fitch held off Beaver Local to win the Hoppel Invitational at Beaver Local High School.

The Falcons scored 268 team points and crowned three champions to hold off the Beavers (246.5 points). Claiming titles for Fitch were Jacob Ferguson (106), Colin Roberts (126) and A.J. Winterburn (220). The Falcons had eight other wrestlers place in the top six: Joey Perez (second, 285), Marc Judy (second, 120), Austin Grate (third, 195), Jacob Smail (third, 182), James Koslik (fourth, 113) Zach Richards (fourth, 145), Tyler Linter (third, 138), David Shannon (sixth, 132).

Boardman finished fifth overall with 147 points. Sean O’Horo (145) and Jake Powell (220) were both runners-up for the Spartans. Other placers for Boardman were Raymond Cmil (third, 113), Nathan Thompson (third, 152), Tyler Rea (fourth, 132), Ashton LaBelle (sixth, 138) and Andre Averette (sixth, 170).

Girard placed 10th with 96 points. Kyle O’Hare placed fourth at 120. Colton McCloskey was fourth at 126. Joel McCracken was fourth at 170. Shawn Thomas finished fifth at 152, and Matt Belcik took sixth at 145.

Leopards take 4th

XENIA — Liberty placed fourth overall and had six placers at the Xenia Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

Freshman Conner Burns placed second at 106 pounds, losing 11-10 in the finals. Dominic Leone was third at 113. Jake Scoville took fourth at 126. Simi Moananu was fifth at 285. R.J. Smith placed sixth at 195 pounds, and Camden Husk finished sixth at 170.

Northmont won the tournament with 283.5 points. Ben Logan was second with 264.

South Range wins

WATERLOO — South Range won the Waterloo D3 Classic on Saturday at Waterloo High School.

The Raiders had five placers, including two champions, in scoring 115 points. Eastwood was second with 93.5, and Sandy Valley scored 77.

Naseem Maali (138 pounds) and Anthony Czap (220) were both champs. Also placing in the top four were: Logan Cormell (second, 170), Hunter Newell (third, 106) and Michael Markulin (third, 126).

Crestview’s A.J. Coppersmith was fourth at 126, and Seth Phillips placed fourth at 285 for Western Reserve.
