Canfield, Struthers win
¯ VALLEY CHRISTIAN 49, SPRINGFIELD 46: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Kristen Gill scored 33 points and hit a game-winning 3-pointer as Valley Christian rallied from a 20-9 deficit to top the Tigers.
Gill scored all nine of the Eagles’ first-quarter points to keep them afloat. Valley Christian’s defense stepped up in the second quarter, holding Springfield to three points as the Eagles pulled within one by halftime. They had a nine-point lead by halftime before a surge by the Tigers tied it back up. Gill then nailed a 3 late in the fourth to give Valley Christian the lead for good.
Kylee Kosek paced the Tigers with 24 points, and Jacey Mullen scored 11. Springfield missed a few potential game-tying shots in the final seconds.
¯ STRUTHERS 59, CHANEY 38: YOUNGSTOWN — Emma Elia of Struthers scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half of a non-conference clash against Chaney.
The Wildcats (1-2) led, 30-21, at halftime, and they pulled away by outscoring Chaney, 29-17, in the final two quarters. Chloe Neider added 13 for Struthers.
Cazhia Jackson paced the Cowboys with 12. Antanasia Crockett put in 10 more for Chaney.
¯ CAMPBELL 48, LEETONIA 36: CAMPBELL — India Armour-Clark’s 19 points pushed the Red Devils past Leetonia.
Cayla Marshall added 15 points and 19 rebounds. Ca’Mill Marshall had five steals and four assists.
Campbell got out to a hot start, leading 13-3 after the first quater. After Leetonia battled back in the second to bring the game within three, the Red Devils outscored Leetonia 25-16 to get the win.
Leading the Bears was Ellen Gregorino with 11 points.
¯ LIBERTY 83, NILES 33: NILES — Four players scored in double figures for the Leopards, who overcame a slow start to cruise past Niles for a non-league victory.
Delia Watson led a balanced Liberty attack with 24 points. Cianna Smith chipped in 15 for the Leopards (3-0), who held just a 6-4 edge after one quarter but outscored Niles, 61-17, over the second and third quarters. Sharda Williamson (13) and Demi Watson (11) reached double figures as well.
Aneziah Fryer paced Niles with 17 points.
¯ CRESTVIEW 39, GIRARD 37: GIRARD — Addison Bandy had back-to-back 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Rebels took a 32-31 lead and the Indians never recovered.
Girard (0-3) led 31-26 going into the fourth quarter.
Tanner Hoffer had six of her 11 points in the fourth quarter for Crestview (2-0).
Krista Perry led the Rebels with 15 points.
Emily Fitzgerald paced Girard with 10 points.
¯ JACKSON-MILTON 52, EAST PALESTINE 38: NORTH JACKSON — Abby Spalding and Chelsea Williams each had 13 points to lead the Blue Jays past the Bulldogs.
Jackson-Milton (1-1) had a 15-6 lead after one quarter and neve trailed.
Jocelyn Fristik had 14 points to pace East Palestine (0-2).
