Canfield, Girard are winners; Blue Devils, Jays win in MVAC

¯ CANFIELD 59, RAVENNA 33: CANFIELD — Ten players scored to help Canfield dominate a non-conference matchup with Ravenna from start to finish.

Grace Mangapora led a balanced attack with 15 points and eight rebounds. She was the only Cardinal to reach double figures. Canfield led 38-18 at halftime.

¯ GIRARD 42, HUBBARD 35: HUBBARD — Girard pulled away with a strong fourth quarter to claim this Northeast-8 Conference clash.

Marissa Cave scored five of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Indians (2-3, 2-0). The Indians held a slim 21-17 halftime lead and outscored the Eagles, 12-7, in the third quarter.

Maddy McCann led Hubbard (0-3, 0-2) with 10 points. Jackie Adler made the game’s only 3-pointers, sinking three for nine points.

¯ WESTERN RESERVE: BERLIN CENTER — Wetern Reserve rolled from the opning tipoff, leading 33-2 after one quarter and 63-10 at halftime en route to improving its records to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference.

Danielle Vuletich ruled the paint, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Olivia Pater and Alyssa Serensky scored 16 points apiece and Brooke Schanz added 14 points for the Blue Devils. Prater added 10 steals and four assists. Serensky and Kennedy Miller also had four assists for Western Reserve.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 52, SPRINGFIELD 43: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Abigail Spalding hit a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and the Blue Jays made four of five free throws down the stretch as the visiting Blue Jays pulled away.

Jackson-Milton, which led 31-30 entering the fourth period, got balanced scoring, as Spalding led with 11 points and Grace McDevitt, Camryn Mitchell and Courtney Mercer all scored 10 points.

Springfield, which used a 14-4 third-quarter scoring push to slice into a 27-16 halftime deficit, got 12 points from Jacey Mullen and 11 from Abby Joseph.

¯ MINERAL RIDGE 51, LOWELLVILLE 35: MINERAL RIDGE — A strong second quarter helped the Rams distance themselves from Lowellville in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference matchup.

Mineral Ridge led, 12-10, after one quarter and then went on a 14-5 run going into halftime. Alexa Harkins scored 12 of her game-high 16 in the second half for the Rams (2-1). Candice Miller added 15, and Fran Kesner contributed 14 more.

Samantha Moore matched Harkins with 16 points for the Rockets (1-2 0-2).

¯ UNITED 36, LEETONIA 27: HANOVERTON — Celeste Hofmeister scored 10 points and three others scored at least five as host United held off Leetonia.

The Bears had one player score more than four points and that was Anna Buffone, who tallied six and had four assists. Tarah Ferry had six rebounds for Leetonia.
