Boardman, Brookfield, McDonald boys capture league golf crowns
Boardman, Brookfield and McDonald won boys golf league titles on Wednesday, with the Warriors sending a message as postseason play nears.
Brookfield shot a 320 at Youngstown Country Club to win the All-American Conference Blue Tier crown by 70 strokes over runner-up Champion.
The Warriors had three players break 80, led by medalist Conner Stevens with a 69. Justin Atkinson shot 75 and Jake Shingledecker had a 77.
Brookfield is coming off a runner-up finish in the Division III state tournament. Sectional play begins next week for boys Divisions II and III and girls Division II.
The Warriors outshot AAC Red Tier champion Boardman by 18 strokes on the same course Wednesday.
Boardman was paced by Dale Nitzsky and Ryan Sam, both with 82, to beat Austintown Fitch, 338-343. The Falcons’ Dom Kapics also shot 82, but Nitzsky was declared medalist by tiebreaker.
McDonald captured the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference title at Salem Hills Golf & Country Club, outshooting second-place Waterloo by 22 strokes, 331-353.
McDonald’s Ethan Domitrovich shot 75 as medalist and he got help from teammates Michael Porter and Caleb Domitrovich, both with 81.
