High School Sports Roundup from March 31

SOFTBALL

Howland 7, Minerva 0 — Makenna Perry struck out seven and allowed just two hits for Holwand. At the plate she was a key contributor on offense with a hit and two RBI’s. Madison Schmitz led the Tigers with two hits and two runs. Ella Newbrough added a hit and an RBI as well as two runs scored. Calleigh Luman and Brooklyn VanNess also had a hit and an RBI each.

Poland 14, Chalker 4 — Riley Ashcraft led Chalker to a 3-0 first inning lead on a two RBI double. Leanna Boccierri tied the game in the second inning with a sacrifice fly and the Bulldogs would never trail again. Boccieri added a single and a two run home run to lead the Poland offense. Madison Medvec and Sydney Bulick had four hits each for the Bulldogs. Lily Madeline also came up big with three RBI’s. Katelyn Cook, Abby Grimm, Riley Ashcraft and Tatum Hudak had two hits each for Chalker with Hudak doubling twice and driving in two runs.

Ursuline 14, Hubbard 3 — Brooke Burton led Ursuline with three hits, including a triple and a double. Burton also drove in two runs and scored three. Mary Moy and Ella Lewis had two hits and three RBI’s each for the Irish. Emma Davies and Alice Stroney also had two hits each. Layla Songer and Haleigh Taylor had two hits each for Hubbard.

Poland 7, Girard 1 — Cassie Blanch had three hits and two RBI’s for Poland. Leanna Boccierri added two hits and Ali Blinsky added two hits and an RBI. Kyra Bell had a triple and a run for Girard.

Austintown Fitch 2, Mentor 1 — Fitch (5-0) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back. Mila Hamley was lights out on the bump, striking out 10 for the Falcons. Alyssa Rodgers drove in both Fitch runs, hitting a solo homer and a sacrifice fly. Kaliana Ray, Morgan Roby and Seneca Coates all doubled, while Kylie Folkwein and Lily Stevens also had a hit each. For Mentor, Kathryn Boufford homered to drive in Mentor’s only run of the game.

Columbiana 3, Lisbon 2 — Ella Eisenbraun struck out 14 batters for Columbiana. Raegan Bell led the Clippers offense with two hits and an RBI. Brooke McKim added two hits and an RBI and Alexis Sperling had a hit and an RBI. Delaney Pickens had a hit and an RBI for Lisbon and Aria Reckner added a hit for Lisbon.

South Range 10, Struthers 0 — Gabby Spooner led South Range with two hits and two RBI’s, including a double. Addison Wardle struck out three in the final two innings for the Raiders.

BASEBALL

Crestview 5, Brookfield 4 — Blake Coleman had two hits for Brookfield. Josh Rankin added a hit and two RBI’s for the Warriors. Player names/rosters were not provided for Crestview.

Lakeview 10, South Range 2 — Brandon Toot had three hits and two RBI’s to lead the Lakeview offense. Eli Gough also drove in two runs for the Bulldogs. Hayden Newton also had two hits and an RBI. For South Range, Dominic Papuga and Brennen Klasovsky had a hit and an RBI each.

Howland 12, Minerva 5 — Keaton Perry had three hits to lead Howland. He was just a home run short of the cycle, collecting a single, double and triple. Minerva scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning but it wasn’t enough. Brayden Kovarik also had three hits for Howland and the Tigers tallied 14 hits as a team.

West Branch 6, Ursuline 2 — All nine West Branch recorded a hit, led by Nick Scofinsky with two hits. Drake Stryffeler added a hit and an RBI for the Warriors. Jeremiah Thomas had a hit, run and RBI and Grady Close had an RBI triple.

Boardman 10, Warren JFK 0 — Ricky Gozur had three hits and three RBI’s to lead Boardman. Tyler Helmick added two hits and two RBI’s and Ryan Neifer had two hits and an RBI for the Spartans. Danny Jorge added another two hits and one RBI for Boardman. Tyler Kirlik pitched all five innings and struck out eight for the Spartans.
