High School Sports Roundup from Oct. 6
BOYS GOLF
The Poland boys golf team began play at the Division II state championship on Monday at the NCR Country Club South Course in Kettering.
The Bulldogs are sixth out of 12 teams after the first round. They combined to shoot 329, and sit behind Archbishop Alter (314), Buckeye Valley (316), River View (317), Ottawa Hills (318) and Indian Valley (320).
The area also had one local compete as an individual. Ursuline’s Breen Dahman enters Day 2 in 10th place after shooting an 88.
The top individual after the opening day is Arcanum’s Luke Stephens, who shot 77.
The final day of the Division II championships will begin today at 9 a.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
Southeast 3, Crestview 2 — Adri Hodge and Sydney Wellman had a goal each for Crestview. Rebels goalies Clarice Harroff and Savannah Neville had 9 and 6 saves respectively.
Niles 3, Girard 1 — Niles (15-0-1) remained unbeaten behind a pair of goals from Taylor Bickerstaff. Kherington Stanford added a goal and an assist for the Dragons.
Bristol 4, Pymatuning Valley 0 — Deserae Raymond and Lauren Church scored two times each. Madison Armour made six saves in goal.
West Branch 5, Ursuline 0 — West Branch (13-0-2) remained unbeaten behind a pair of goals each from Grace Bates and Elli Colian. Alinee Bacconi also found the net. Goalie Audrey Eaton had her 12th shutout of the season, a West Branch school record.
Badger 2, Grand Valley 1 — Maelyn Custer scored twice as Badger (9-6) got a close victory. Arielle Tuchek added an assist and Braves goalie Piper Dailey made eight saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Bloomfield 3, Bristol 0 — Aniyla Doll led Bloomfield to a sweep with 12 points and five aces, 25-22, 25-14, and 25-18. Peyton Koon added 14 kills, seven digs, and three blocks and Hailey Ishman had 20 assists. Dellanie Murphy also had 12 points.
Maplewood 3, Lordstown 0 — Maplewood earned the sweep 25-8, 25-16, and 25-16. The Rockets were led by Aliah Brumit with 11 kills. Lauran Krieg added 15 assists, six digs, and six aces.
Newton Falls 3, Jackson-Milton 2 — Newton Falls (12-7) won a back and forth affair 25-17, 17-25, 25-14, 23-25, and 15-13. Hanna Wright led the Tigers with 33 points, 12 kills, and 10 digs. Torrie Fanton had 42 assists and 27 digs, Madi Knight had 22 points and 12 digs and Jada Blutcher had 17 kills.
