BASEBALL
Poland 9, Niles 0 — At Waddell Park, Grady Pitzulo threw five scoreless innings to lead the Bulldogs to a win. Pitzulo only surrendered three hits and a walk while striking out six before turning things over to Tyson Tarajack, who fanned five in two perfect innings of relief. Tucker Tarajack powered the Poland offense with a 3-for-5 day, including a home run, driving in two and scoring three times. Owen McKenzie had a hit and two RBIs, Dylan Kelty doubled with a run scored and an RBI, Mike Daley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jacob Hayes added an RBI. For Niles, the trio of AJ Yost, Anthony Mymo and Brian Parsons accounted for the lone Red Dragon hits. Connor Duncan took the loss, allowing nine runs — seven earned — on 11 hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings of work.
Green 6, Austintown Fitch 2 — At Austintown Fitch, the Falcons were in the game until a three-run fourth inning by Green made it a 5-1 deficit. Rocco DiFlorio led the Falcons with a 3-for-3 performance, including a double, with an RBI. Carter Owens added a hit and an RBI, and Jackson Cheeks and Nate McGahagan each had a hit. Zac Zabosky took the loss. The senior gave up four runs on four hits and two base on balls. He struck out three in 3 1/3 innings in the start.
Canton Central Catholic 13, Cardinal Mooney 2 (5 inn.) — At Cene Park, three runs for CCC in the fourth and eight more in the fifth led to the run-rule loss for the Cardinals. Mooney’s Taco Verroco tripled, drove in a run and scored once, and Trent Litman added a hit and an RBI. Vince Gentile scored on the Verroco triple. Will Petty took the loss for the Cardinals. He allowed four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks, striking out three in three innings on the hill. Ryan Reese, Andrew Bushey and Petty each had a hit on the day.
Mathews 11, Fairport Harbor 1 (5 inn.) — At Fairport Harbor, the visiting Mustangs snapped an eight-game losing streak as the bats came alive early for nine runs in the top of the first inning. Jake Petak singled and doubled, Jimmy Pegg and Gabe Pesa both had two singles and Kam Kester doubled. Caden Brown earned the win, striking out one without allowing a walk.
Beachwood 6, Bristol 4 — At Beachwood, a five-run second inning gave the Bison all the runs they needed. Diesel Williams took the loss for the Panthers, giving up five runs on six hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings on the mound. Laverene Miller came in to relieve Williams. Miller calmed things until the Panther offense could get into the game. He allowed one run on four hits and a pair of free passes in 2 2/3 innings of relief, and Keifer Swager pitched two perfect innings to end the game. Ronald Imhoff had two RBIs for the Panthers, and Kaiden Kohler had a hit and an RBI as Bristol scored three in the fifth to get back into the game.
LaBrae 4, Warren JFK 3 — In Warren, the Vikings scatter four runs in the win while holding off a JFK comeback in the sixth inning. The Eagles trailed 4-0 before scoring three runs in the sixth, but they were unable to push the tying run across late. Owen Boone earned the win as he pitched three shutout innings for the Vikings, surrendering two hits and striking out four. Easton Armstrong scored twice, Lucas Glaser had a hit with a run and an RBI and Boone helped his own cause with a run scored. For Kennedy, Taggart Carfangia took the loss after giving up two runs — one earned — via one hit and five walks in two innings pitched. Andrew Lapolla doubled and drove in two runs, and Trevin Rinck went 2-for-3 at the plate. Freddy Bolchalk, Brennen Sanata and Dom Ryan each scored once, and Landon Snyder and Michael Bartoe each recorded a hit.
SOFTBALL
Brookfield 13, Newton Falls 5 — At Newton Falls, the Warriors battled back after falling behind early. The Tigers led 4-0 by the end of the second inning, but the Warriors scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth, five more in the fifth and closed their scoring with one more tally in the sixth. Madison Obermiyer rebounded from the tough start to earn the win. Obermiyer allowed five runs — three earned — on eight hits and two walks, striking out 11 in a complete game. Obermiyer was also a force at the dish, going 2-for-4, including a triple, with three RBIs and a run scored. Elaina Boyce went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, McKenna Penwell had a hit and two RBIs with a run scored, Grace Teal chipped in two hits with an RBI and two runs scored and Mya Jumper put up a 3-for-5 effort with an RBI and a run scored. For the Tigers, Kylee Lance singled and doubled with two RBIs and a run scored. Kirra Howard was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Hanna Wright had a hit and an RBI.
Tallmadge 2, South Range 1 — As part of the Doug Hawkins Memorial Invitational at Stow, the Raiders tried posting a comeback in the top of the seventh but fell short to the Blue Devils. Giada Pauline drove in the Raiders’ lone run on a solo homer. Anna Aey went 2-for-2 with a walk, Solena DeJesus singled and doubled and Kiera Winner doubled. Ashley Rupert took the complete-game loss. Rupert surrendered two runs on five hits and two walks. Danielle Charton had a 3-for-3 day for Tallmadge, and Larissa Taylor earned the win. Taylor allowed one run on nine hits and a base on balls, striking out four in the complete game.
BOYS LACROSSE
Boardman 14, Lake 4 — At Spartan Stadium, Boardman picked up its fourth straight win after scoring six goals in the opening quarter. Emerson Hare and Kevin Montgomery each scored four goals with an assist to lead the Spartans. Tony Pinciaro and Chase Zelesnak both found the back of the net twice, and Luke DeJoseph and Ashton Hoover each scored once. DeJoseph added one assist and Hoover picked up three assists. Brennan Wittman made six stops, only allowing one goal in each quarter.
