Plenty of area teams in playoff spots heading in latest computer rankings
With the final week of high school football taking place this weekend, teams throughout the state prepare for the playoffs.
The OHSAA released its latest computer rankings, and 27 teams are in position for the playoffs with a strong Week 10. Ursuline, South Range and Western Reserve are all ranked first in their respective regions.
The Mahoning Valley’s three Division II programs are all in position to reach November with Austintown Fitch (fourth), Boardman (eighth) and Warren G. Harding (ninth) in Region 5.
Ursuline sits atop the Division III Region 9 rankings. Fellow Steel Valley Conference rival Chaney sits in 14th, and Canfield is right behind in 15th.
In Division IV, West Branch remains a perfect 9-0 and are fourth in the Region 13 polls. Struthers sits in fifth, Hubbard is 13th and Cardinal Mooney is holding onto the 15th spot. Salem is just on the outside looking in at 18th.
South Range is No. 1 in Division V Region Region 17. Garfield sits in fourth, Poland is fifth, Girard enters the final week in seventh, Crestview follows in ninth, Lakeview is 12th and Liberty is holding on at 15th.
As for Division VI Region 21, a pair of area teams are close to the top spot. Pymatuning Valley is second behind Kirtland, and Springfield is third. LaBrae comes into Week 10 in eighth, Valley Christian isn’t too far behind in 11th and Mineral Ridge is 12th. Brookfield (17th), Campbell (18th) and Columbiana (19th) on the outside looking in on Rootstown and the final playoff spot.
The Blue Devils of Western Reserve are the top team in Division VII Region 25. Warren JFK is holding down the fourth spot, McDonald is seventh, Windham comes in at eight, Lowellville is 10th and East Palestine’s 2024 turnaround has the Bulldogs in 13th.
