Area’s best gather for annual Al Beach All-Star Classic

The 52nd annual Al Beach All-Star Classic was held at Canfield High School Tuesday evening.

In the girls’ game, the Red team defeated the White team 95-70. Salem’s Rylee Hutton earned MVP honors, scoring nine points for the Red team. Western Reserve’s Quincy Miller won the girls three-point shootout by hitting 13 threes.

In the boys game, the Red team beat the White team 137-121. Howland’s Alex Henry earned MVP honors after scoring 12 points. Canfield’s Dom Cruz won the boys three-point contest with 18 made threes.

The scoring format for both games was one point for a defensive stop to go with normal offensive scoring.

WFMJ’s Dana Balash was honored as the Mahoning Valley Coaches Association Sportsman of the Year. Boardman’s Mackenzie Riccitelli and Badger’s Duncan Moy were named the first-ever girls and boys basketball players of the year, respectively. Each player was awarded a $500 scholarship compliments of Austintown Financial and the MVCA.
