Scandy stops Navarro in ‘Battle of Belmont’ main event
YOUNGSTOWN — Tony Scandy of South Side Boxing Club stopped Rick Navarro of Michigan in the main event of Jack Loew’s ‘Battle on Belmont’ amateur fight card late Saturday night at the Girard Metroplex Banquet Center.
Scandy earned the win when his fight with Navarro was stopped by the referee in the third round, highlighting action on the nine-bout, all-amateur card that included four other local winners.
Other locals claiming victories included Youngstown’s Patchio Moleba, Omari Garner, and Mohammad Hajjawi with Warren’s Joshiah Johnson also scoring a victory.
Moleba scored a split decision over Dillon Flores of Erie, Pa. in a 105-pound pairing. Garner barely broke a sweat during his 85-pound scrap with Carlo DiFrangia of Columbus when the referee stopped his bout in the first round while Hajjawi posted a unanimous decision over Adrian Wilder, also of Youngstown, in their 155-pound bout.
Johnson stopped Jaidee Khieosawang of Akron in the first round of their 118-pound battle, which kicked off the night’s action.
Other winners included Francis Bonner of Akron, who won a split decision over Dajuan Carlisle of Cleveland at 132 pounds, Cleveland’s Colton Schneider, who scored a split decision over Rashid Mujihad of Cleveland at 170 pounds, and John DiFrangia of Columbus, who was a winner by unanimous decision over Kason Offield of Pennsylvania in a 95-pound pairing. Lennell Walton of Columbus posted the other victory, a split decision in his 135-pound battle with Mohammad Nabi of Cleveland.
