The Trumpers who attacked our nation’s Capitol building, causing countless injuries and millions in damages, were pardoned by Trump because they were “patriots.” This country is broken beyond repair. DEAR EDITOR: I hope to take a moment of your time to publicly recognize an above-and-beyond job done by one of your elected officials, Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Michael Ciccone. Yesterday, I contacted Mr. Ciccone’s office later in the afternoon, attempting to procure naturalization information from the early 1900s. Who’s watching library spending?

DEAR EDITOR: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County has been quite free with their spending: millions on new buildings and refurbishing existing buildings. They passed a levy last fall over the objections of many of us who do not think they need more money. They spent $30 million refurbishing the Main Branch with additions that are unnecessary and duplicate county agencies. The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley spent $8 million on a 50,000 sf building. Why are there 611 school districts?

DEAR EDITOR: Reducing property taxes is as simple as reducing costs. There is no reason why Ohio needs 611 school districts. For example, Lordstown has 403 students, Mathews 613. Smaller districts like these should be abolished as their students could easily be absorbed by surrounding communities without new buildings or additional science laboratories, libraries, athletic programs, etc. Superintendents, finance officers and their office staff would be eliminated, as would the expense of school boards.
