Envisioning a healthier Youngstown

DEAR EDITOR: Youngstown faces a critical challenge to its future: limited longevity due to widespread chronic diseases. In Mahoning County, high rates of diabetes, heart disease and obesity shorten lives and strain families, healthcare systems, and our local economy. Many residents lack access to affordable health resources, such as preventive screenings or nutritious food, which are essential for healthy aging. Those in long-term care need support

DEAR EDITOR: May was Older Americans Month, a time to recognize and honor the contributions of our older citizens. This is also a time to reflect on how we can better support and protect them — especially the most vulnerable among us who live in long-term care facilities. One invaluable resource many Ohioans may not be familiar with is the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program at Direction Home of Eastern Ohio. Boardman concert was a great show

DEAR EDITOR: On Wednesday, I attended the Boardman Schools’ spring choir concert. It was outstanding. They presented the program in true Broadway fashion. For the finale,they did “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” accompanied by the Boardman High School high Band. It was AWESOME! It brought the audience to their feet. Well done, Boardman! DEAR EDITOR: I admit that while his whispering of “well, guess what” during several speeches creeped me out, I never believed Joe Biden was too old for the job until I read Bob Woodwards’ account, in his book “WAR,” of the President’s failing mental acuity. The cover-up, in my opinion, was by his campaign staff. Mistake made, lesson learned. MAGAites, however, won’t ever admit Trump has any shortcomings. Last weekend I attended my 4-year-old granddaughter’s dance recital. At intermission, I went to the lobby and there was a group of people who smelled so bad of marijuana that the whole lobby stunk. I guess these people must have smoked during intermission. Smoking in public is illegal and driving after smoking is the same as drinking and driving. I can’t believe that people can be so inconsiderate to expose children to their bad habits.
