The lying about deer must stop
DEAR EDITOR:
In July 2025, the USDA conducted a survey of Mill Creek MetroParks with a count of 14.9 deer per square mile. The MetroParks administration then came up with a “survey of 300 more deer.” No one questioned it.
How was that survey done? Was it by drone, airplane or something else? We deserve to know who did the survey, and we should be able to see the data. Without it, how can we trust that the numbers are accurate?
Mr. Young’s theory of how deer can miraculously turn into a herd is poppycock. He disputed that the USDA figure of 14.9 deer per square mile was the final word. He argued that the 14 deer per square mile needed to be projected forward to account for fawns that would be born later in the year. Young’s pathetic interpretation of the 50% of the deer, 14 deer per square mile were pregnant females, and each had about 2.6 fawns, the population would increase to over 25 deer per square mile. When adding the males, this would significantly increase the total population. This is Young’s version of why he must continue the parks deer reduction program.
Now, let us do something strange, let us think. The deer, let us take the female deer. Young has ordered the females and pregnant females on the golf course last year. They were all rounded up by baiting them to come to the golf course. When the golf course was full, they opened fire on babies and their mothers. So here is the deer he already has slaughtered and he’s counting them in his untruth. Now, let’s talk about all of these bucks or male deer. Did you forget you had them killed last year and you’re killing them now as I format my letter.
Another thing this landscaper doesn’t know, but most hunters do and people familiar with the wild do.
No deer population averages 2.6 fawns per doe … 1.2 is the average, and twins are not common … and triplets are unicorns. His math has been flawed since day one … straight lies to create a fake narrative that science and real sportsmen cannot support — but it sounds good to the average resident.
These are facts, Aaron Young. I have no reason to lie, but you do … from the very beginning, you kept secrets, no transparency, your committee backs you up because they are afraid of you, in my opinion. What you have on the rest of the judges and trustees is beyond me.
I want this hunting stopped and so do over 3,000 others. I want it stopped now.
I want this lying stopped to get your way, Mr. Young.
