Some differences after moving to Ohio

DEAR EDITOR:

I moved to the Mahoning Valley from Erie County, Pa., for a position at the LG chem plant. I was surprised at the lax consumer protections in Ohio as compared to Pennsylvania.

The first thing I noticed was how Ohio gas stations price spread fuel grades. In Ohio there is at least a $1.00 price spread between 87 and 93 octane; some stations have a $1.50 price spread! In Pennsylvania, it’s usually 60/70 cents.

The second thing, Ohio businesses are not required by law to post signs if they pass swipe fees onto consumers. My biggest pet peeve is when I try to support a local business, but I get charged a swipe fee. I am reminded why I like chain restaurants better. The restaurants post this at the door if swipe fees are passed onto consumers in Pennsylvania.

Lastly, it does seem groceries in Ohio are slightly higher than Pennsylvania. While most stationary items are priced similarly, some fresh meats are much higher here.

Will this cause me to move maybe to Lawrence County, Pa., and still be close to make the drive to Lordstown? Certainly not, however, this will make me fight for what’s right for consumers in Ohio.
