Peace’s eternal truth renews all

DEAR EDITOR:

There is no doubt that what Elon Musk did, proudly and without shame or fear in front of the entire country, was a Nazi salute. And it should come as a shock to nobody.

He has long been showing us who he is. It should come as a shock to nobody, as the entire Trump brand has been showing us who they are.

It definitely feels very different to have it so clearly on display. This was no dog whistle. There was no smile and a wink. There was no question. But we should not be surprised. These are hateful men, wishing to place fear and hate in our hearts.

Musk may be the richest man in the world, but he cannot move me to hate.

These are scary times and our country’s future is very uncertain, but one true thing is that to black Americans, this is nothing new. They have been seeing presidents and leaders wave the flags of white supremacy since day one. All of this is not new because this country was founded on white supremacy and genocide. This should be no surprise. This is the logical conclusion of our history.

It’s important to remember that peace is not the absence of pain. Peace is truth.

Our past is very pain-filled. We must accept the truth of that pain to get to peace. If we refuse, we will always be in conflict.

I can’t think of a less worthwhile way to spend your life than amassing the world’s wealth and using that power to influence hate. I’d rather be inspired by the countless actions of those who had nothing and aspired to put into the world works of love and creativity.

Rather than dwell on the despicable acts of pathetic men, I’m going to live in the world that Martin Luther King Jr. was working toward. Jan. 20 was his day, and his message of peace and love will always be eternal.
