Cleaning house at YSU should follow Zoldan gift
DEAR EDITOR:
My faith in the credibility of YSU and its reputation in the Mahoning Valley was reinstated with Mr. Zoldan’s recent announcement to revisit his philanthropic donations to the university. It has been a well-received announcement.
More importantly, taking said donation to the Dana School of Music, out of direct administrative control and relegating funding solely to its director, Dr. Joseph Carucci, was a wise and propitious move. Hopefully, the entire Cliffe College of Creative Arts will benefit from Zoldan’s ongoing generosity. Apparently, alumni were in complete approval of this intelligent decision.
Since Mr. Zoldan cleverly maneuvered around Bill Johnson’s deceitful vetting, appointment and ill-gotten contract machinations, I have one additional suggestion.
Upon completion of Johnson’s first year in office, he should resign and return the remainder of his three-year million dollar contract back to YSU. This sudden windfall could then be earmarked for the renovations of Kilcawley Center … auspiciously renamed Zoldan Hall. Beautiful!
Finally, upon Bill Johnson’s departure in December of this year, the inept board of “trustees” would get the message and immediately begin a legitimate and transparent search for a qualified president. Then, following the end of their own respective appointments, they likewise should go. Clean house and let in a breath of fresh air, one bringing with it the much-needed transparency of honesty and integrity. As a respected institution of higher learning, YSU deserves no less.
Go Penguins!
