Put our country before your party
DEAR EDITOR:
Trump claims that he is very proud of the fact that his judges overturned Roe and now reproductive rights are in the hands of the states. I agree that there are certain issues that should be the purview of the states, but consider where we as a society would be if we would have left school desegregation and Jim Crow laws to the states.
As recently as 1970 it was against the law in Virginia for a white man to marry a black woman. Should that have been left to the state? I applaud the citizens of Ohio for upholding reproductive rights here, but what about the other states that have enacted cruel and draconian laws that imperil the health and lives of women.
What about J.D. Vance and Bernie Moreno, both of whom are insultingly glib and paternalistic when they talk about the issue, and for that matter, women in general? The irony is, if we allow Trump and his ilk to run this country again, the issue may very well be returned to the federal government: as a national abortion ban!
I appeal to patriotic Republicans to put country before party and join us Democrats and not let that happen. A Harris administration will enable us to return in some fashion to the principles of Roe.
