Onion for Vance should be Orchid

DEAR EDITOR:

The “Onion” given to Sen. J.D. Vance in the March 30 newspaper for voting against the $1.6 trillion government spending bill belongs to the person responsible for writing the article and awarding the prize. Sen. Vance deserves an “Orchid” for standing up against wasteful spending and passing an irresponsible bill just to keep the government open.

Deadlines don’t just creep up on us in the middle of the night and say, “Surprise!” The government officials knew when this deadline was and should have proposed legislation early enough to discuss and pass a realistic bill.

If the OH WOW! children’s museum needs money to operate or expand, then the people of the Mahoning Valley should support their request, not taxpayers from other parts of the country.

As for throwing millions in assistance to beef up security at the U.S.-Mexico border, this only bloats the size of the government and adds to the deficit. Solve the problem — don’t throw money at it. Tell other nations to keep their people at home. We have a legal way to enter. Follow procedures. Stay in your own country and change for the better if you don’t like the way things are.

We need to elect more people like Sen. Vance!
