Elected officials must work to stop reckless spending

DEAR EDITOR:

A snippet seen on TV indicated the national debt is growing at $1 trillion every 100 days. That is a scary thought when the debt is now at 1.25% of GNP.

The country cannot sustain this kind of reckless spending and still survive. Our elected officials must stop making decisions that benefit themselves and start thinking of the country.

Expanding the government to solve problems the government created is ridiculous. Most of these problems originated with liberal democratic leaders from the mayors to the president.

Allowing free-flowing drugs, homeless people living on the streets, releasing criminals from being held accountable for their crimes, and opening the border to millions of migrants not able to support themselves but relying on government handouts to survive are just a few of the stupid decisions made by these leaders.

The pilgrims learned right away that socialism doesn’t work. Why work when you can get a handout from Uncle Sam?

President Lyndon Johnson started things with the Great Society by creating a welfare state and a class of people who learned you could have a good life by having a baby, and then a government check to support it.

Hard-working people should not be required to support these irrational decisions because in time we will no longer be a free society, but one beholden to our politicians and wondering where our next meal will come from.
