Circus has returned, this time to Warren
DEAR EDITOR:
When I was a young child growing up on Youngstown’s East Side, I remember when the circus would roll into town. They would set up their three-ring circus close to our family home near McGuffey Road. We grew up enjoying the antics of the performers and animals.
I see the circus is back, but seems to have settled in Trumbull County. Nearly every day, I open the newspaper to see what will be appearing in the latest edition of the three-ring circus.
An online definition of a three-ring circus is a public spectacle, especially one with little substance. It seems that this Trumbull edition have two rings performing a great show, while the newest, third ringmaster is always creating mayhem. I am glad the other ringmasters are trying to get things done the right way so the audience will get their money’s worth.
Thanks for the “Greatest Show on Earth.” Glad I live in Mahoning County, where the county commissioners work together. Thanks to Mahoning Commissioners Anthony, Carol and David! Enjoying retirement, Frank?
The three-ring circus was invented by Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus founders, P.T. Barnum and William Coup, in 1871. Instead of watching a single act, three acts would perform simultaneously in three rings.
