Trumbull should plan for climate change

DEAR EDITOR:

Trumbull County is favorably situated for climate change to become a place of both population and economic growth. We need sound planning to capitalize on real-estate advantages of our favorable location. We need a climate scientist to advise us on the stresses that an increase in the population will affect county services and infrastructure. For that reason, I have asked our county commissioners to do a national search to bring in the highest caliber of talent in climate planning.

Now you may ask, why should our tax money go to hiring a scientist when there are people sleeping in unheated buildings and food insecure when we’re in the middle of a public health crisis? County commissioners need scientific advice on how to invest our tax money so we can best meet challenges of the expected influx of population from coastal regions. An increase in local population could greatly exacerbate existing quality of life issues related to poverty.
