Why do we forget Christ at Christmas?

DEAR EDITOR:

As the magical mystical crystals of snow falling down upon the earth, as the chill of the winter wind blows, as children are laughing and building snow men and sledding, the Christmas holiday is here.

It seems as if everyone has been running to the malls and various stores to buy gifts to put under the Christmas tree. Houses are adorned with the best decorations. The smell of pies, cakes and Christmas cookies are all throughout the house. Christmas music is blasting everywhere you turn, and Santa Clauses are plentiful. Is this all that Christmas means?

As I watched people go from store to store, some were in a joyous mood, while some would put the Scrooge and the Grinch to shame. The greeting of MERRY CHRISTMAS is replaced with “Happy Holidays.” Is this all that Christmas means?

The homeless huddle wherever they can to stay warm. Some of the elderly seem as if they are forgotten. At someone’s dining room table sits a empty chair where their loved one used to sit. Where is the joy of Christmas?

Many eons ago, the King of Kings was born in a stable, in a manger. It was an innocent baby who would grow up to be a man who would take on the sins of the world. Yet, he is forgotten at Christmas.

The story of Santa Claus is a magical wonderous story to tell children, but in my humble opinion, the birth of Jesus Christ is the ultimate “true” story we should tell our children. Christ should be paramount in our lives.

Christ is the main part of the word — Christmas!
