DEAR EDITOR:

On Aug. 29, it was my honor and pleasure to visit with our Youngstown Police Department at their early morning “Roll Call.” Observing the pride they have in their responsibility to serve and protect was truly a thrill. The TEAM made up of officers, dispatchers, radio operators, mechanics and more, was a joy to watch, with every person, highly trained, knowing that their role is important to the safety of each other and to all of us.

The meeting took place in a classroom setting, the walls adorned with the reminder of officers tragically lost during the call of duty. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, then the challenges for the day were meticulously outlined … all so that we can be safe.

Sometimes I forget how blessed we are to have our men and women in blue, our firefighters, our first responders of all types, and of course, our brave United States military. Thank you to all who serve and make this the greatest nation in the world.
