Start new journey of healthier eating

DEAR EDITOR:

Do you ever think about trying to change your eating patterns but do not know where to begin?

This is the case for many people when trying to develop a healthier lifestyle, specifically with eating healthy. There is no destination to become “healthy.” It’s all about focusing on your journey and learning from it. A good first step is to look at the many benefits and what it can do for your body.

There are many benefits to eating healthy. Not only does it help you to lose weight, but studies have shown it improves your heart health, mood, energy and memory. Also, healthy eating has been shown to boost immunity and keep the digestive system running smoothly. Plus, you can reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases, such as heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

Some tips to get started on healthy eating are very simple. First, start by slowly incorporating fruits and vegetables into your meals. Another tip is to think about eating in moderation. By eating in moderation, you do not have to eliminate foods you enjoy. You shouldn’t think of certain foods as “off limits” because this is a natural response to wanting the foods more. You could go about this by reducing the portion sizes, leading to not craving the foods as often and indulging on them occasionally.

You do not have to deprive yourself of foods you enjoy. By eating healthy, you are improving your health physically, mentally and emotionally. The benefits could surely have an impact on a person’s mindset to make healthier food choices, especially when looking at it from a long-term perspective.

I encourage you to begin your journey of healthy eating.
