No one benefits in divided nation

DEAR EDITOR:

We saw the video. We all agreed it was murder. America united. Did you get that? It didn’t matter your skin color, your race, your heritage, your age, your sex, your social standing, your profession — we agreed. Get that? America united.

Now, who would have you think we are divided? What purpose is there in fueling the illusion of division? Politics, money, power? Think about it.

Think more. One bad cop and three co-workers who did not stop him.

Think further. What have we seen over the years in so many professions? Bad lawyers, bad teachers, bad clergy, bad store workers, bad custodians, bad construction workers, bad doctors, bad nurses, bad counselors, bad firefighters, bad parenting, bad FBI employees, bad politicians. The list goes on. And that list has people of all races and beliefs on it.

Do these bad players mean everyone who practices in that profession is evil or bad? No.

Through this epidemic, how many doctors and nurses worked diligently to save lives? What about the men and women who worked to clean hospitals, subways, stores, etc.? How many teachers continued to work to educate children? How many firefighters, police officers, city workers, grocery store employees, truckers, and others continued to work for the American people? All heroes. American heroes.

Americans, helping fellow Americans. Americans united.

So why are we being led to believe there is mass division? Why are the lawless attacking our cities in the name of a protest for justice? We have the right to peaceful protest. We do not have the right to loot and steal.

Why is the destruction of a city allowed as an expression of pain? When life presents difficulties, as it inevitably does to everyone, is it going to be acceptable to harm another person, to destroy others’ property, to steal, to destroy another’s life work? Absolutely not.

Some people were killed in these riots. Who caused that? Where are their names? Where is their justice?

Freedoms were taken from citizens to protect them from COVID-19 deaths, but where is the protection for those who are dying or will die because of the riots? Has protecting lives stopped being important? Will it become important again if the disease spikes and those in power renew their reach to limit our freedom to work and prosper?

God forgive the people in power and / or those with money who have allowed or encouraged this destruction. God forgive them more for fueling the illusion of division.

Life in America was getting better for so many people. Imperfect yes, but improving. Our good cops continue to work hard putting their lives at risk in order to maintain law and order and to keep us safe. I thank them.

Who benefits from fueling division?

Think America, think.
