GOP not helping to stop COVID-19

DEAR EDITOR:

I just heard the car companies are asking for help during the coronavirus crisis. Excuse me, but didn’t they get bailed out at least once before? And didn’t they get a huge tax break from Donald Trump, as well as the Republicans?

What did they do with all that money? Did they reinvest? Oh, no. Their CEOS and top management got raises and bonuses, and their stockholders saw their dividends rise. GM even closed down the Lordstown plant. You know what the past employees of Lordstown would tell them, don’t you?

Trump is trying to change the subject away from his many failures.

He has actually proclaimed a declaration of victory. What victory? COVID-19 cases are rising; the death toll is out of sight, and a lot of that has to do with Trump’s ignorance. Victory over this pandemic will come only when Trump stays in the White House with his mouth taped.

The experts in the scientific and medical fields know what to do, and a vaccine is in the works. Trump and Republican governors should be held responsible for the rise in coronavirus cases and deaths that occur because of their failure to adhere to the rules that help prevent more cases — wearing masks, social distancing and no large crowds.

People who protest about these things, along with the stay-at-home rule, will cry if they come down with the virus. And what would they say and do if, God forbid, someone in their family dies because of their refusal to follow the rules. I don’t particularly like being homebound, but if it keeps me from contacting the virus and spreading it to others, then I will follow the rules.
