Stop-and-frisk could help stop violence

DEAR EDITOR:

When Michael Bloomberg was mayor of New York, one of his policies was Stop-and-Frisk.

Is this such a bad idea? With the violence and shootings here in Dodge City, (aka Youngstown, Ohio) would it not be prudent to take a pro-active step in reducing the number of violent acts here in our city? With this policy, the murder rate fell from 650 to 300 the year Bloomberg left office.

How many illegal guns are on the streets now that might be removed through this policy? How many funerals would be prevented? There are too many young lives being lost to Dodge City violence.

Yes, there will be outrage by some minority groups that they are being profiled, and this will always be the case; but the end game will remove illegal guns from the streets and hopefully reduce the number of violent acts by guns.

A lot of thoughtful planning and common sense will be needed to implement such a plan, but if it can save one life and the grief of a family, it is well worth the price.
