Growing economy is win / win for everyone

DEAR EDITOR:

Democrat Michelle Obama said when she was our first lady that for the sake of fairness, many must be willing to accept a smaller piece of the “economic pie.” Slicing up the “pie” equally means that some will get a larger slice at the expense of others, whose slice will get smaller — win/lose. And that suggests that D.C. should focus on economic inequality.

President Trump is growing our economy or growing the “economic pie.” The result is growth for everyone’s piece of the pie — win/win.

Improving economic equality and helping those less fortunate is a noble goal, but increasing everyone’s wealth has more economic impact.

Usgovernmentspending.com shows that federal, state and local spending on welfare in 2020 is budgeted at $1.119 billion. Givingusa.org reports charitable giving in 2017 as $410.02 billion. Collectively, that is a very large piece of the economic pie, a fact that seems to be ignored by Michelle Obama and other Democrats in this discussion of equality!
