Workplace safety in Ohio is on an upswing

Ohio’s public employers are doing an admirable job emphasizing workplace safety. Because of that effort, they will see a 3.9% rate reduction in workers’ compensation insurance premiums to the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

Low medical inflation costs can claim some of the credit, but Ohio’s counties, municipalities, public schools and other public taxing districts have seen declining injury claims, too.

“Ohio’s employers continue to prioritize workplace safety,” said Gov. Mike DeWine. “These efforts are what allow us to continue to reduce rates and save employers money that they can invest back into their workforce.”

In fact, since 2011, public employers’ rate has been reduced by an overall 57.2%.

“We continue to do everything we can to help our customers succeed,” Administrator / CEO John Logue said. “These reductions show the effort and work that employers are putting into workplace safety.”

That kind of work makes a difference for workers, employers AND taxpayers.

Public employers have put forth the effort; BWC responded properly by reducing the rate. It’s a win all around. Those who achieved it are to be commended.
