CANFIELD — Bernard Louis “Lou” Smolkovich, 73, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at his residence. Born May 31, 1952, in Youngstown, Lou was a son of the late Bernard Leonard and Anna Ruthora Mognet Smolkovich and was a lifelong area resident. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Lou served during the Vietnam War and earned the rank of SP5. Following his military service, he pursued his passion for trees, graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in arboriculture.
