Vincent J. Bovo Jr. 1951-2026

LOWELLVILLE — Vincent J. Bovo Jr., 75, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at his home in Lowellville, following an apparent heart attack.

Born on June 28, 1951, in Youngstown, Vince was the son of Vincent Bovo Sr. and Patricia Byers Bovo.

He was raised in the close-knit community of Lowellville, where he attended Lowellville Local Schools and developed the strong work ethic, loyalty and sense of community that would define his life.

In 1972, Vince answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman. After successfully completing recruit training and Infantry Training School, he was selected for the elite Marine Security Forces and served honorably for the next three years at Fort Meade, Maryland. During his military service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, reflecting his honorable service. Those who knew Vince recognized that the discipline, integrity and pride he carried as a Marine remained with him throughout his life.

Following his honorable discharge, Vince returned home to Lowellville and began working at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Steel Mill. When the mill closed in 1978, he embraced a new challenge by starting his own business, Vinnie’s Painting, Roofing & Spouting. Through hard work and determination, he built the company into a respected local business that he owned and operated successfully for 35 years.

Vince accepted a position with Penyak Roofing in Edison, New Jersey, in 2015, and upon retiring in 2025, he returned to his hometown of Lowellville, where he enjoyed spending time with his family and living with his brother, Joe.

Vince proudly served as Past President of Moose Lodge 1978 in Edison, New Jersey, where he dedicated countless hours to supporting charitable causes and strengthening the bonds of fellowship within the community. He was also a proud member of the American Legion, remaining connected to his fellow veterans and honoring the values of duty, patriotism and service.

Those who knew Vince will remember him as a hardworking man who was never afraid of long days or difficult jobs. Though quiet at times, his actions spoke louder than words, and his generosity, loyalty and dependability left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Vince is survived by his father, Vincent Bovo Sr. of Struthers; his siblings, Patty Burkey of New Middletown, Joseph Bova of Lowellville, Marie (Rex) Weaver of West Jefferson, North Carolina, Marcella Oliver of Holly Ridge, North Carolina, Michael Bovo of Hubert, North Carolina, and Jeanette (Jeff) Hendershot of Ravenna. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all whose lives were enriched by his kindness and steadfast friendship.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Patricia Byers Bovo, who passed away on Dec. 10, 2015.

A proud Marine, a devoted son and brother, a respected businessman, and a loyal friend, Vince lived a life defined by perseverance, honor, and dedication.

Semper Fidelis.
