John L. Coriston 1949-2026

AUSTINTOWN — John Leroy Coriston, son of Francis and Laura Coriston, died Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at his home in Austintown.

Born Dec. 2, 1949, he was 76 years old.

He graduated from Chaney High School in 1967. John worked as a lineman at AT&T for 35 years, before retiring in 2009. After retiring, he could often be found in his home, surrounded by cats and dogs, watching various sports on the TV with a Pepsi in hand. John lived much of his life with the pedal to the floor. As a man who loved drag racing, off the track he could often be found fixing the car and waking up the neighbors to the sound of the race car engine revving. He loved his family, animals, and playing guitar, which he learned to play by ear. As a diehard Cleveland sports fan, he somehow balanced being a Browns and Steelers fan in a way that fans of either team could never understand. At his core, John was a loving father and grandfather who will best be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor and for allegedly never losing an arm wrestling match.

John is survived by his children, Kelly (Jon), Mindy (Randy), Trey (Tina) and Amber (Joe); his grandchildren, Ashton, Chase and Zoey; his sister, Sandy; and the mother of his children and good friend, Connie; as well as his pups, Daisy and Diva; and various cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Jean, Lou, Jay, Norma, Chuck, George, Laura and Bobby.

A celebration of John’s life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, in the fellowship hall at the Wedgwood Park Evangelical Church, 1944 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Friends will be received in the fellowship hall beginning at 1:30 p.m., with a brief service and a luncheon to be served immediately following.

Arrangements for Mr. Coriston are being provided by the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. This obituary may be viewed and condolences can be sent by visiting www.lanefuneralhomes.com.
