Marilynn I. Makar 1932-2026

AUSTINTOWN — Marilynn I. Makar, 93, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Humility House in Austintown.

Marilynn was born April 25, 1932, in Youngstown, to the late Olin W. and Irene Pearce Miller.

Marilynn enjoyed her time at McDonald High School, where she was involved with several extracurricular activities. She was involved with a community choir, where she met her husband-to-be, George R. Makar.

Marilynn graduated as an RN from the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing on Sept. 3, 1953. She worked at Southside Hospital for many years. She also worked at several nursing homes in Austintown.

George and Marilynn were married Nov. 28, 1953. They moved to San Diego, California, while George finished serving in the Navy during the Korean War. They then moved back to Austintown, where they resided until their deaths.

Marilynn enjoyed traveling with George whether it was Sunday drives or going to Topsail Island with her family.

Marilynn was a member of Mahoning United Methodist Church, where she was very active, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, helping with Bible school and helping with church dinners. She later became a member of Millcreek Community Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark (Debbie) Makar, Sandy (Bud) White, Keith (Shari) Makar, Kirk (Jackie) Makar, Sally (Greg) Humphries and Amy (Vic Wells) Gothay; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Betty) Miller; her sisters-in-law, Barb Dunlap, Caroline Tusin and Linda Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Anthony Gothay; and her brothers, Larry, Dick, Ted, Jim, Dave, Jack and Bob.

Family and friends may call 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2026, at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown.

There will be a private graveside ceremony at Brunstetter Cemetery for the family. Others are invited to a celebration of life beginning at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Millcreek Community Methodist Church, 4570 Lockwood Blvd., Boardman, OH 44511.
