Ella L. Bevan 1938-2026

AUSTINTOWN — Ella L. Guzzo Bevan, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, April 26, 2026, to be with her Lord and Savior following a brief illness at Hospice House in Poland.

She was born April 12, 1938, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, a daughter of the late Samford and Ella Kempke Moore.

Ella grew up in Florence, Wisconsin, and Iron River, Michigan, and at the age of 16 moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for Goldblatt’s Department Store, learning and enjoying fashion.

After a short time, Ella made her way to Youngstown, where she met and married Michael F. Guzzo Sr. on Sept. 7, 1957. Together they shared 40 years of marriage prior to his passing on July 19, 1997. During those years she was a homemaker to her five children and worked side by side with her husband in their family business.

Ella met and married Ernest H. Bevan on May 4, 2000. They enjoyed working and taking many trips together until his passing in July 2005.

Faith, family and friends were how Ella lived her life. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown, and she considered them her family. Her faith was a big part of her life, and her devotion to her Lord was endless. She shared her faith as a eucharistic minister, homebound minister and member of the Ladies Altar Guild, and she enjoyed being a part of the Holy Rollers Crew for the church’s spaghetti dinners.

Ella was never one to sit still; she enjoyed cooking and baking and was an avid bowler with her friends in the Happy Seniors Bowling League. She also loved taking trips with the St. Pat’s Ladies Altar Guild, going to football games (GO PACK GO!), always looking for the latest fashions (as she was a fashionista!) and sharing her knowledge with everyone she met.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Nunzio M. Guzzo of Youngstown and Michael F. (Michele) Guzzo Jr. of Austintown; two daughters, Mrs. Ella Maria (William) Welsh of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, and Ms. Mary Theresa Guzzo of Austintown; two stepsons, Ernest (DeDonna) Bevan Jr. of Struthers and William Scott Bevan of Florida; 14 grandchildren, Stephen, Lisa, Danielle, Heather, Matthew, Brian, Renee, Scott, Samantha, Jessica, Brandon, Ashley, Katie and Aaron; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands and parents, Ella was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hall and Dorothy Anderson; two brothers, Samford Morre Jr. and Walter R. Moore; a daughter, Christina T. Guzzo; a stepson, David Bevan; three stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Connor, Sandra Chapman and Susan Kaufman; and a great-granddaughter, Kenzie Grace Guzzo.

According to Ella’s family she was an amazing, wonderful Mother and Grandmother who taught us our work ethics, how to be creative, and most of all how to enjoy life, and we have been very blessed for having known and loved her.

Ella’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital ICU and Mercy Health Hospice of the Valley and Hospice House for all of their kind and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 1, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, OH 44507.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514, in Ella’s memory.
